Back in the City.

I’m back in Perth now after a lot of driving, 1400kms more or less! This is one of the usual evening lightening storms just outside Exmouth and the sunrise in the morning.

I got a new strong aluminium mast extension in Geraldton; don’t buy one of these carbon ones they will break!

I went to the Zoo the other day with Tim and Honorata, and saw some cool animals. Its not a big zoo in Perth but it well laid out with plenty to see.
We went to the aquarium yesterday and it was alright, a bit too expensive and I reckon the last one I went to in Dingle was better. It was interesting to find out about the sea life on this coastline, I learned a few new things.
Not much wind around and the weather is cooler, I’m not sure where to go next but I will go somewhere next week on another adventure.

Update at last.

I have been doing quite a lot since I put a good post on here, sorry haven’t had much time in towns lately and the net is expensive.
Had a good time in Kalbarri national park apart from the flies, that is where the pic of me with the gorge in the background is from.
The windsurfing pics are from a town called Denham in Shark Bay, another national park, contrary to the name there has never been a shark attack here. The wind was really good but the sea grass gets stuck on your fin a lot and makes it hard work. Fishing for squid is popular here in the dark with the lights on the pier, Jana caught loads and I learned how to clean them. They tasted really good the next day. Mmmmm fresh calamari.
On the way we stopped the see strombolites, the oldest living thing in the world, these things that look like rocks, started off life on earth by producing oxygen when there wasn’t much around a few billion years ago.
We planned to have a brief stop in Canarvon but stayed there 3 days as the wind was really good and shallow really flat water was perfect for freestyle. I finally learned downwind 360s, I hadn’t really bothered trying them before.
For my birthday we stayed in a place called Blowholes and as you drive there is a big sign saying "King Waves Kill" so be careful.
I had a decent sail here till a wave broke ontop of me and broke my crap mast extension. Its a poor design and I wont get one of those again. The solid aluminum one is the one to get I think!
Here is my friend Georges towing my sail in.
The only thing for it was to start drinking then and we had a really nice meal my friends cooked for me and cake and sparklers later.
I’m in Exmouth now and just spent the last 3 days in Cape Range National Park, It’s a really great place for snorkelling and I have been in the water for a good few hours each day. I saw loads of colourful fish, big turtles, crabs and sharks! Some small ones about 1 metre and one big one about 2 meter 50 or so. It scared the shit out of me at first because I only saw the back half of it, when I saw the head though I could see that it was a harmless type.
There has been no wind lately so it’s been really hot and the horseflies have been out and biting, it’s a relief to be in the water. A little Kangaroo came hopping up to the vans one night and we fed him some bread. They are funny creatures...

Coronation Beach

Sunset at Coronation Beach, Geraldton

I’ve had some good windsurfing here at Coronation Beach. I got here on Thursday night and the flies were driving me crazy. I was trapped under my mozzie net all evening till it got dark and they went away. I didn’t think I could cope with this for a few day but luckly the wind came up and drove them away for the rest of my stay here, mostley.
The forecast was for really strong winds and big waves that didn’t arrive but it was enough to get out and a have a good time. There were some pros here doing some fancy freestyle which was good to watch. One of them is 3rd in the world for ladies freestyle. They make it look so easy!
I spent lots of time falling in trying to do vulcans and some big falls trying some forward loops. The waves are really good for jumping here when the wind is strong enough. Yesterday I was underpowered just floating out and catching the waves back in, This was ok though and I feel its improving my balance and wave rideing.
Im going to check the forecast now and see if its worth going to Gnaraloo, 7 hours drive from here, the last hour down a dirt track. It really is in the middle of nowhere. I have to stock up on food and water as the nearest shop is 200kms away (one way) A few other windsurfers went up on Saturday so I will meet them there.
I have been out of network coverage the last few days if anyone has been trying to reach me, Its really patchy around here so don’t worry if you cant get me.
I saw some emus near Cervantes, I hope to get some pics of some roos soon.
